Somali Kids Project: Being Somali-American
Our project involves four phases.

  1. Learning facts about the United States
    and Somalia.  We learned about
geography, daily life and symbols of each
place.  We also developed our own
symbols to represent us a Somali-
Americans.  Go to the Our Symbols page
to see the symbols we created.
  2. We read stories about children who had
moved From Africa to the United States.
We had discussions about things that
were hard for them and things that could
be done to make their lives easier.  Some
of the kids in our group were immigrants
and could tell us what it was like when
they first came to the United States.  Go
to the Bibliography page for information
    on these books.
  3. We wrote interview questions and
    interviewed Somali community members.
  4. We thought about everything we had
learned and wrote tip sheets to help
people make life easier for people who
come to the  United States from Somalia.
