The health consequences of Khat include the following: oral diseases
hypertension and increase of health rate, loss of appetite, gastric
disorders, insomnia, physical exhaustion, psychological dependency
In order to combat the emerging health, legal and social problems
associated with Khat, the Somali American Community Association
(SACA) plans to develop a two-tier project.
- SACA will develop an educational and outreach project to
educate the people about the health and legal aspects of Khat.
- SACA will develop partnerships with community programs, both
the private and public sectors, in order to link treatment and
counseling services to people who need them.
